Custom Video Training

Video on your site is the best, easiest, least expensive permanent way to increase your site's search rank, especially on Google (which owns YouTube). Recent research suggests that video is the most vital marketing tool at some of the most successful companies on the planet. Furthermore, video training is the most effective and cost-efficient way to support your customers post-sale, especially when combined with proper documentation. Not only that, your company's adoption of multimedia training and video technology demonstrates a commitment to comprehensive service and support pre-sale as well. A good introductory training segment not only teaches, but it should inspire and make the software look fun and easy to use. For these reasons and more, video is becoming a mandatory part of a comprehensive, modern marketing strategy.

I specialize in producing award-winning product demos, training and promotion that can be divided into two types: (1) narrative/hosted training and (2) concise conventional training. The costs typically start very low (or I can help you do it yourself for free), with no ceiling on the upper end (we can shoot film and hire Jessica Alba to host, if you can afford it). I have produced video training for dozens of products (software and hardware) from companies like Adobe, Apple, Canon and Sony (to name but four), in formats as simple as five-minute introductory online videos to complete 90-minute DVD-Video discs. I have a large portfolio that is are currently online in one form or another, but the following examples should give you a good idea of what I can do for you. Concise Product Demos and Training

Promotional product demonstration videos and training may be the most effective and cost-efficient tool for your business. Starting at around $50 per finished minute, I think you'll find that my rates are extremely competitive. And I would be more than happy to help you do it yourself if that sounds like fun (just use the  Community  forums here to ask your questions). Here are some recent demos:

Note that my rate is very negotiable, both lower and higher! So, for example, if we get lucky and I already know your product, that saves me time and I can quote a lower rate. Software demos are also generally easier than hardware, so we may be able to negotiate something there. I am also open to bartering and trades if your product is something I can use. Also note that I am honestly not willing to endorse products that I don't believe in: your product must do what it claims to do.

Expanded Training

These segments are produced the same way as any television program would be produced, with scripts, pre-production planning, a full half-day of production, typically a half-day of shooting cutaways/b-roll, editing, compositing, animations... the works. Starting costs for this would be $200/minute for a finished production (remember: very tightly edited, no frames wasted, every minute is valuable), so about $1,000 for a five minute segment. Anything extra will cost more, including hiring a sexier host, adding custom animations, fancy camera moves, building sets and extensive live demonstrations. Call or e-mail me for a free quote on your project ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ). The following are all roughly $1,000 segments:

Summary

  • A 5-10 minute intro to your software in a fast, fun and entertaining way is going to run $250-$500, screen capture, narration, plus graphics, music, etc., but nothing shot with a camera (or minimal b-roll). Typical turnaround is two days, but I can be motivated to do it overnight.
  • A hosted 5-10 minute intro to your software with narrative structure, history, examples and custom animation and graphics is $1,000. If you want a hottie host other than myself, add on $400.
  • A 90-minute DVD-Video course on your software will likely run $5,000-$10,000 (lower per-minute rate because I only need to learn the software once), depending on your distribution options (e.g., if you want an authored disc, companion text-based training, etc.). Replication/Duplication, printing, packaging can all be negotiated, but would not be included at that price.
