China Shuts Down Online Video PDF Print E-mail

The Chinese government continues to shut down more and more video sharing sites on the Internet ostensibly because the sites do not have the proper license or are hosting illegal content. Of course the real reason is the unrest in Tibet. It has been reported that videos and conversations have been deleted by censors (software?) within a minute of being posted.

As in the rest of the world, the online video hosting business in China is booming and the People's Republic has been scrambling to keep up. While getting around the censorship is, of course, possible, it's not trivial. Furthermore, much of the content filtering is invisible, so users don't even know what they are missing.
