http://www.soundsnap.com/ is my primary source for sound effects. They've got a huge library, to cost ranges from free to cheap and it's a wonderful collaborative project of artists and technicians. Granted, the quality can be uneven, but you can definitely find top-notch effects. Check out Soundsnap.com's first video, which is kind of a video of philosophical musings from sound designer Frank Serafine, who worked on Tron and Star Trek, among many other films.
